Where to eat at Sydney Olympic Park before an event?

Looking for a restaurant to dine at before your next event at Sydney Olympic Park? You have come to the right place?

1. Fishwave Poke Bowl

If you’re after a casual vibe and love poke bowls and sushi, you cannot go past this place. There isn’t much seating here but it is perfect if you’re in a rush to an event and need to eat on the go. The meal sizes here are generous and the ingredients always seem fresh!

2. Piccolo Roma

This restaurant has been around forever so they know their stuff when it comes to pre-event hospitality. A glass of wine paired with your favourite pizza, pasta or main is the perfect combo at this restaurant. We’ve been here before an event and found the service friendly and the meals were fresh and came out in a reasonable time.

3. P’nut Street Noodles

If you’re on budget, P’nut Street Noodles will fill your hunger needs before an event at a reasonable price. The portions are large and full of flavour and the staff are always friendly. Who doesn’t love noodles right?

4. Thai Palate

This restaurant has a nice casual vibe to it and has all your favourite Thai dishes sorted. The food comes our quick and fresh and tastes fantastic, plus the portions are also quite generous. Your Thai food cravings will definitely be satisfied here.

5. LouLou’s Cafe & Restaurant

Alfresco dining with woodfire pizza is the best way to sum up this restaurant. The staff are friendly and the dishes are delicious! Their garlic bread comes highly recommended too. This place gets extra brownie points as our dog is called Lou too haha!

Mother’s Day High Tea Spots 2022 – Sydney

In our family, we have a family tradition to take our mother to a different high tea every Mother’s Day. We have become quite the high tea experts over the years of doing this, so we have created a list of our favourite spots and whats available for Mother’s Day high tea in Sydney in 2022.

1. Avalon Restaurant, Katoomba

You will enjoy mountain views with your high tea at Avalon Restaurant in Katoomba. You will also get to enjoy a glass of bubbles, followed by a tasty selection of house-made savouries and sweet treats, plus fluffy lemonade scones topped with jam and cream plus there will be live music by Simon Watts on violin.
Price: $75 per person

2. Doltone House, Hyde Park

Tresillian’s is hosting a fundraising Mother’s Day Tea Party at Doltone House, Hyde Park. All guests will get a gift on arrival, a silent auction and raffles will also be available on the day. On the menu you will find sweet and savoury options, scones and unlimited sparkling wine.
Price: $110 person

3. The Alice Cocktail Experience, Potts Point

This 90-minute experience includes actors that take you on a journey of clues, cupcakes and curiosities! You’ll get to brew tea, solve riddles and enjoy some great entertainment. This is perfect for any theatre loving mothers out there!
Price: $30 per person

4. Sir Stanford, Sydney

The Mother’s Day high tea at Sir Stanford stands out this year because of its Elderflower and Raspberry Mocktail Shot. Also on the menu you will find scones, sweet and savory options plus a glass of sparkling wine. You can also use your dine and discover vouchers for this event!

We have all dreamed of the rooftop bars we see in movies where our favourite characters mingle in Manhattan at venues overlooking the rest of the city. Sydney actually has quite a few of its own. See our list below of our top choices of rooftop bars in Sydney.

1. The Rook, Sydney

This place may not have the harbour views but it does have the decor done right and an open rooftop. This trendy bar is located on York Street and has the cocktail menu to die for. Our menu picks are the Prawn & Chorizo Fettuccine and Cali Fish Taco’s!

2. The Rooftop, Sydney

The name of this place says it all. Located near the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney’s CBD you will find this venue with its robust drinks menu. On Wednesdays, they have Half Price Winesday, where if you visit between 12pm-3pm you get 50% off wine by the bottle. They also have a Bottomless Brunch for $75 that includes 3 hours of Prosecco & Pizza!

3. Slims Rooftop, Darlinghurst

If you are looking for more of a casual vibe, then Slims Rooftop is the perfect place to visit. It is just up the road from Hyde Park and has some very instagram worthy looking cocktails to select from. Our menu picks would be the Popcorn Shrimp and Raw Salmon Poke Bowl (washed down with a mojito.)

4. Bar Ombre, Sydney

Bar Ombre automatically gets our tick of approval because it has Sydney Harbour Bridge views. So, if harbour views, pizza and cocktails are your thing, this is the place to be. They also have a DJ/live music too, which gives the place a nice vibe. Our menu item picks would be the Calamari Fritti and the Vegetariana Pizza

5. Babylon Rooftop, Sydney

Babylon Rooftop in Sydney’s CBD gives off the biggest New York City vibes. This venue is above Westfield Sydney and is a modern Middle Eastern style bar. The food is delicious and the bar menu is decently priced. On weekends they have 90 minutes worth of bottomless mimosas and meze for $68 per person!

Our top recommendations for Pancakes in Sydney

If you are looking for pancakes for your next Sunday brunch, make sure you check out our list below first!

We have never met anyone who does not like pancakes… so there must not be many people out there who are not a fan of them. It does not matter what age you are, pancakes are always a go to at breakfast, lunch or dessert, especially when you are out with family and friends.

With that being said, here are our top cafes in Sydney where we would recommend you get your next pancake fix from!

1. Fig & Co

Fig & Co is located in the rural suburb of Kenhurst in Sydney’s North-West. They are open seven days a week and to top it off, they are pet friendly, so you will be able to bring the whole family! Their menu changes sometimes but there is usually some kind of variation of their fluffy pancakes on there. The last time we went, we got a four stack of pancakes with chocolate, strawberries, biscuit and cream!

2. Girdlers Cafe

Girdlers cafe has a few locations across the Northern Beaches – Dee Why, Brookevale, Manly and Avalon. They are open seven days a week and serve wholesome food and organic coffee. Their pancakes are known as ‘Pancake Revolution’ and includes fluffy buckwheat, banana and coconut pancakes with berry compote, organic coconut ice cream, pistachios and mandarin dust. You can then select if you want organic maple syrup, homemade chocolate sauce or homemade salted caramel sauce.

3. XS Expresso

XS Expresso has made quite a name for themselves when it comes to pancakes. They have 18 locations across Sydney and Newcastle so there is bound to be one close by to you. They are also open seven days a week and you will find them open until 10pm every night. They have quite a few different pancakes on their menu to pick from. They include their XS Ricotta Hotcakes, Maple Stack and Belgium Stack. All of them taste delicious, so it just depends on what you are feeling like on the day.

Top 5 doughnut places in Sydney that deliver

Since lockdown has started, we have felt more of an urge to indulge in the finer things in life… dessert, more specifically doughnuts. Now the doughnuts from your local grocery store are decent but probably not the best, so we went on a quest to find the best doughnut places in Sydney that deliver. Find our list below!

If worse comes to worse and you can’t find a place that delivers to you, you can always make your own right? Here are some moulds and a recipe book 😉

1. Grumpy Donuts

Grumpy Donuts are based in Camperdown and have all your classic donut flavours. You’ll find your vanilla glaze, the famous strawberry or chocolate ‘Somer Himpson’, maple, salted caramel and banana and a few others. Their individual donuts cost between $5-6 each or you can get a 6 pack for $32. If you don’t feel like a full one, they also sell the holes of the doughnuts with cinnamon! And lastly vegan doughnuts are also available.

2. Rude Boy Doughnuts

Located in Surry Hills you will find Rude Boy Doughnuts, they do both pick up and delivery. We love the sound of their ‘Filled Boy’ doughnuts where you can select from 8 different options to fill your doughnut with. This includes grape jelly, cherry and strawberry jam, raspberry jam, vanilla custard, chocolate ganache, lemon curd or salted coconut caramel. All these options make it such a hard decision but we love it!

3. Down For Donuts Sydney

Down for Donuts Sydney are located in Guildford West and deliver Sydney-wide or you can pick up if you are nearby. Most of their doughnuts are not your usual round shape, however they look delicious and well worth a try. Some of their flavours include milo, Lotus Biscoff, jam, custard and Nutella. They also have DIY kits to decorate your own doughnuts, perfect for the kids!

4. Drip Donuts

Drip Donuts can be found in Camden, Newtown and Sydney, they offer both pick up and delivery and they sometimes pick locations with high order numbers to do drop offs. They have some amazing flavours including Snickers, triple malt and passionfruit. We love the idea of the cinnamon doughnut nuggets too, which looks like it is the doughnut holes.

5. Shortstop Coffee & Donuts

Shortstop Coffee and Donuts are based in Darling Square and Barangaroo and you can pre-order for delivery to your door. They have some really interesting flavours including earl grey and rose cake, triple matcha cake, Australian honey and sea salt and many more. Most of their doughnuts are around the $5 mark and they have a box of 12 for $64.

Sydney Lockdown – Takeaway options August 2021

If you are looking for a new takeaway option during lockdown. You have come to the right place.

With the numbers continuing to rise in Sydney, it looks like we are going to have to continue feasting on takeaway until we are allowed to dine out again. With hope that this does not go on too much longer – we have created a list in the meantime of some takeaway options you may not be aware of.

1. Sous Le Soleil – Roseville

Sous Le Soleil is a French Restaurant and shop located in Roseville. Their kiosk is still open for takeaway during the lockdown and has a range of options to select from with pick up and delivery available. You can find dishes like quiches, scallops, lamb shank pie and more. They even have a dessert menu and we are eyeing off the pear and frangipani tarts on their Instagram.

2. Pickle and Lou – Wattle Grove

Serving up coffee seven days a week is Pickle and Lou at Wattle Grove. They are currently doing takeaway for breakfast and lunch and there are some good options on the menu. For breakfast we are eyeing off the baked eggs and for lunch we will happily have the chimichurri chicken plate.

3. Bobby Bakehouse – Dural

For those times you are craving a nice hot pie, Bobby Bakehouse in Dural is the place to be. They are serving takeaway during lockdown and their truffle beef pie has gained our interest. You can also add potato, peas and gravy to any of their pies to spicy them up a little. Also, they have recently added doughnuts to their menu and we are living for this – perfect for dessert after your pie.

4. Ormeggio – Mosman

When the cravings start for Italian food, seafood and cocktails, Ormeggio in Mosman is the place to get lockdown takeaway from. Depending on the day, they offer delivery and pick up. There are some great options on their menu – we would love to have the gnocchi in napoletana sauce paired with an Aperol Spritz. They also have dessert and the coconut and chocolate chip sorbet looks amazing.

5. Luigi’s Restaurant – Narellan

Another Italian option for those on the other side of Sydney is Luigi’s Restaurant in Narellan. They have been around for over 10 years and are currently open for takeaway. Their takeaway options seems like it is filled with endless possibilities, I think we will go with the gnocchi formaggio. They are also open seven days.

Sydney June 2021 Lockdown Takeaway Options

If you’re looking for some local businesses to support during Sydney’s June 2021 lockdown. We have listed some recommendations from our followers.

Here we are once again as Sydney goes into lockdown for 2 weeks- lets call it lockdown 2.0. During this time it is so important to support your local cafe and restaurant owners as their bills don’t stop because their customers do. We’ve reached out to our community of almost 5,000 followers and asked them to let us know of their local that deserves to be recognised. Without further ado, here is our list of takeaway options for Sydney’s June 2021 lockdown.

1. Gus’ Brothers Canteen, Seven Hills

Recommended by one of our followers, we can’t seem to find this one on social media but the Google reviews prove it is worthy of a mention. There isn’t a bad word said about them and it is said to be the best kept secret in the area. Some of the highlights we’ve read are, ‘Freshest food I have had in a long time’ and ‘The food and coffee is exceptional.’

2. Temasek Restaurant, Parramatta

Another recommendation for your Sydney June 2021 lockdown is Temasek Restaurant in Parramatta. We have not heard of this one either but it has been around since 1992 and serves authentic Singaporean-Malay cuisine. They are remaining open for takeaway from Thursday-Sunday. Here you will find decent pricing and great food according to their Google reviews.

3. Hangang by Mama Park, Strathfield

Our third recommendation is Hangang by Mama Park at Strathfield, they are open for takeaway with their full menu available to order. Here you will find tradition Korean cuisine and some of the highlighted dishes on their Google reviews include pan fried flounder, fish roe stew, chilli crabs and soy crabs. Now we’re craving Korean food!

4. Oh My Days, Glebe

For those in the Glebe area, Oh my Days are offering 15% off their all day food menu Monday-Friday. With an offer like that, we cannot not mention them. They are a vegan cafe/bakery with many different milks you can try in your coffee/tea. We’ve also heard the homemade lemonade is bomb from Google reviews.

5. Linea Cafe, Ramsgate

We had so many good recommendations, so it was hard to pick our final cafe for this article (I guess we will have to write another one.) Linea Cafe in Ramsgate is open for takeaway with their full food, drinks and snacks menus available to order. The locals in their Google reviews state this has been their local fave café! And apparently their coffee is excellent too (they use Campos).

Bars outside Sydney’s CBD

Are you looking for a new local bar? Well you’ve come to the right place – we’ve discovered bars from Coogee to Penrith.

Now that we have arrived in Winter, we like to avoid venturing out too far in the night. The cold just isn’t worth the trip into Sydney’s CBD to visit the bars in there. We’ve done a bit of research to assist you staying warm and found bars all over the suburbs. Maybe your next bar trip will be just round the corner?

1. Hendriks, Crows Nest

Hendriks, located in Crows Nest is a small bar with a huge wine list (100 bottles to choose from). For those on the lower north shore, if you can’t find a wine you enjoy here – we can’t help you haha! We have heard the highlight of this bar isn’t the wine list though, but instead it is their Jaffles. They are giant and come in flavours including mushroom, cheese, beef, chicken and even a Nutella one for dessert!

2. Una Mas, Coogee

If you enjoy tapas and wine, Una Mas at Coogee is the place for you. It is inside Coogee Pavilion, right off the famous beach. You’ll find some unique Spanish and Australian dishes here plus an array of cocktails and affordable wines. We are eyeing off the octopus with fermented chilli (which we can’t find a picture of but it sounds good on the menu)!

3. Sake Restaurant and Bar, Manly

If looking over the water and eating Japanese food is your style, this is the place for you. For those on the Northern Beaches – if you thought the 100 bottle wine list previously mentioned was a lot, it has been outdone by Sake with a list of 150 bottles! They also have $10 spritzes during certain hours on weekdays.

4. Pickled Bear, Bella Vista

The Pickled Bear, located in Sydney’s Hills District, is the perfect local bar if you like cheese boards and meat. There are some great cocktails on this menu, we are having trouble deciding which one we could pick. We do know what we would choose to eat though – The Charcuterie Plate! We would recommend you book an inside table to stay extra warm haha.

5. Mr Watkins, Penrith

And lastly, we have Penrith who host Mr Watkins Bar. You’ll find hotdogs and a great wine list ready for you 6 days a week. They also have trivia night one day per week (currently on Tuesdays). With Penrith being about 40kms from Sydney’s CBD this means you can save so much time on transport and spend more time being warm!
